严格的说Linux指的是 Linux Kernel。Linux Kernel 是Linux操作系统（也叫做GNU/Linux）的重要组成部分。

它最初的作者是芬兰程序员Linus Torvalds。但是人们常说的Linux往往是指各种Linux发行版。Linux的吉祥物是企鹅Tux。
