SAP R/3运用应用程序模块（通常简称为“模块”）来处理企业的经营管理任务。这些模块常用其英文字母来命名。比如，SD表示销售（Sales）和分发（Distribution），MM表示物料管理（MaterialsManagement），CO表示控制（Controlling）。诸多模块分成三大类：物流（Logistics）、财务（Accounting）与人力资源（HumanResources）。比如物料管理（MM）在“物流”类中，控制（CO）是“财务”类的一个模块。它们相互协作，共同作用，来处理公司中的经营管理任务。

In 1999 the Enjoy initiative shifted its focus from R/3 to Web applications. SAP decided to offer a bunch of new, easy-to-use Web applications - so-called Easy Web Transactions (EWTs).

HTML Business was developed in cooperation with frogdesign; it consisted of a library of screen elements that had a graphic design similar in spirit to the Enjoy GUI of R/3 – the motto was that all R/3 applications should look the same, regardless of their technology.
