OpenPBS is the original version of the Portable Batch System. It is a flexible batch queueing system developed for NASA in the early to mid-1990s. It operates on networked, multi-platform UNIX environments. The menu on the right provides additional technical information.

Today, the developers of the Portable Batch System offer two versions:

• OpenPBS, the unsupported older original version
• PBS Pro, the enterprise-quality professional version
